Third Hand Initiative

I am supporting this wonderful charity called "Third Hand Initiative". The founder of this wonderful charity is the beautiful Elizabeth Aruba. She advocates for access to education in her community and a third year student at Pwani University training as a high school teacher.

From Elizabeth;

I am the founder of Third hand Initiative which is a community based organization that promotes literacy for community development through mentorship and carrying out activities geared towards education in Kilifi County and beyond. During our mentorship sessions they do peer to peer group sessions to tackle the social barriers that girls face in tapping their full potential in learning.

* This is relevant to help them realise their dreams

* Set realistic and achievable goals

* Help them overcome societal obstacles

The most amazing thing is that these girls open up to what they face at home, school and their immediate environment and how they thrive towards their goals, they feel free and listened to when they have a female mentor to help them overcome these challenges they get empowered that "if another girl did it, then despite the challenges I am not limited to anything." And they hold on to aspire in becoming achievers in their various academic and beyond their academic life.

I serve my society specifically to develop my community in embracing education because everyone who embraces education gets liberated not because of employment but education brings further liberation for self-development. I relate my challenges to any other child out there so by sharing my life with others it becomes a motivation to others in believing in their goals and working hard.

Lack of funds to facilitate movement and activities, this is one of the major challenge because my activities are fully voluntary and sometimes when you request for volunteers they expect payment of services they provide. So far I do production of items such as book dividers, caps, wrist bands and t-shirts which are sold for profit to facilitate movement from time to time.

Through the program # help a child learn education, I have successfully linked about 20 girls and 10 boys for scholarships in friends organization due to lack of funds in my organization and I can proudly say that I have one girl in secondary school under my organization’s umbrella whom we fully fund through the ward bursaries, she is one of the girls we had recently mentored in a primary school.

Through the project #preserves girl’s dignity, I have supplied sanitary towels and underwear which is one of the necessities for girls needs in four children’s home and schools since the organization was registered Through the project skill empowerment, which is a partnering project with friends organizations we have successfully admitted over one hundred students for short term training with KCB foundation and CAPYEI- an youth empowerment program that entails equipping youth with skills for employability and self-development for the achievement of sustainable development goals.

For the past two years I have networked with various groups to see fulfilment of our objectives. At the moment we have one girl at secondary school whom we solicit funds to enable her stay in school and its my hope that we take one more 2020. We have trained about 10 students for skills being girls and boys, we have supported about 5 schools primary schools, secondary schools, and some children centres with our programs in terms of provision of learning materials, sanitary towels, and carried out mentorship talks for empowerment.

My organization at the moment has 15 registered members and we have three board of directors who help in the planning of programs and trying to get friends to support the organization and we are still looking to add more board of directors.

2018 was such an awesome year where we did so much transformation in our society hope this year gets bigger and better! We would love to pass on the impact, get in touch and let's walk together through this journey. So excited to have received a donation of 25 packets of sanitary towels to enable girls stay in school.

Sanitary towels are essential for girls education during their menstruation times to make them confident and comfortable.

You can support our program by donating a packet to enable a vulnerable girl stay in school.

Most of our girls lack decent under wears and school socks. This year we are targeting to support 200 girls for 9 months in Kilifi County with sanitary towels and other learning essentials to make her stay in school.

Lots of thanks to Wilson for the Donation!
